June 22, 2008: Marion Street Ramblers' First Gig!
The Marion Street Ramblers gig at the Regency nursing home and rehabilitation center in Gresham went wonderfully. We played a full set (and then some) for a group of about twenty-five to thirty people. Everything went off without a hitch except for slightly ragged version of Red Haired Boy (I lost my place a couple times, but I think the others covered for me!). Our songs--Pig in a Pen, In the Pines, Red Wing, What Do You Do with a Drunken Sailor, Worried Man Blues, Kiss Me Mother, The Cuckoo, Red Haired Boy, Angeline the Baker, Goodnight Irene, Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Tom Dooley, and Swing Low Sweet Chariot--were crowd pleasers all. Several of our audience (almost all the residents there are in wheelchairs) sang along on the songs. As one of them put it, "That's our kinda music!" Great fun.
