June 17, 2008: All About Scout

I haven't yet mentioned our dog Scout. She's a two year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, a pup from Aegis Kennels (her registered name is Aegis Bottlerocket), the daughter of Ivan and Arete. She's got a long and lean build (people sometimes believe she's crossed with a greyhound), a soft, gentle face, is faster than snot, and extremely social with other dogs. Though she puts up a good bark when a stranger's at the door, she's actually pretty timid--although when pressed to it, I'm sure her Lion-hunting instincts would take-over and she'd be a formidable opponent for any burglar. She's approximately 70 lbs. Her ridge has three whorls (thus she's a third whorled dog, ha ha). She's named after the little girl in "To Kill a Mockingbird". Once a year or so ago, Scout was asleep downstairs while the film version of "Mockingbird" was showing on TV. When one of the characters shouted, "Scout! Scout!" our dog leapt to her feet and ran upstairs to see what he wanted.
